ABOUT ROBERT “BOBBY BIRD” AKA CHOKA Carlson Gracie 1 st degree Black Belt Born and Raised in Chicago. I started training Judo as a child, went on to Karate (Tae Kwon Do) under Master Han Cha Kyo. I earned my Blue Belt with one Red Stripe as a teenager. Martial arts played a major role in my formative years. While in the military I did Judo, Bushido Karate, Boxing and Kick Boxing to stay in condition. In 1996 while training Tae Kwon Do, Grand Master Carlson Gracie Sr. walked into our dojo with Rey Diogo. Rey was a Brown Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at the time. Master Carlson and Rey gave a demonstration. Rey challenged three of our best Black Belts to spar, he won all three matches. Once everything was over, I knew right then and there, I was studying the wrong martial art for self-defense. From that moment on, I stayed with Brazilian Jiu jitsu as my martial art. While training with Master Carlson Gracie Senior I received my 1st Blue belt. That was such an honor to have him recognize me. Then I moved back to Wisconsin. At that time there were no legitimate Jiu Jitsu schools in Wisconsin, resulting in taking off about 12 years. After the long hiatus, I demoted myself to white belt. My family and I trained at various gyms throughout Wisconsin. My kids and I started competing at various Midwest tournaments. Throughout our early journey, we never had any coaches come support at us at the tournaments. The only person, who always greeted us at the tournaments throughout the United States was Carlson Gracie Junior and his team. Even though, we were training at other gyms, he and his team members always took us in and coached us during our matches. This is why, after receiving my Brown belt, I went back to Chicago to see Carlson to join my original team. Carlson asked me to get on the mats, where he put me through various techniques and I had to roll with some of his guys. Once I finished taking his tests and rolling, he then redid my promotions from Blue Belt to Brown Belt. He then certified my promotions to show that I was a 100% Carlson Gracie student, which was such an awesome feeling. Throughout my competition career, I competed at the most prestigious tournaments held in the US. While competing, I was to be able to win a few Gold medals, Silver medals and a few Bronze medals at PANS, Master Worlds and a Chicago NAGA Champion Belt. As a Purple Belt, at Master World held in Long Beach California, I won Silver in my category and Gold in the Open Category. The highlight of my career happened in 2018. During that year, as a two stripe Brown belt I competed at Master Worlds and I won Bronze in my category and Silver in the Open category, later that year, I won Double Gold at PANS. In 2018 Master Carlson Junior awarded me my Black Belt. Lineage: MITSUYO MAEDA, CARLSON GRACIE SENIOR, CARLSON GRACIE JUNIOR,ROBERT BIRD

ABOUT: VICTOR BIRD AKA “TEEGA” CARLSON GRACIE JUNIOR ONE STRIPE BROWN BELT Born in Chicago and raised in Tomah Wisconsin. My first martial art was Karate, I went on to Wrestling and Judo. Finally at the age of 10, I started training Brazilian Jiu JItsu. When I started training BJJ, all of the different schools did not have an established kids classes. I had to train and roll with my sister and adults. Once I started to compete, I had to go against teenagers and young men. Needless to say, I did not achieve the desired outcome I was hoping or wishing for. In the end, Carlson Junior would ask, so “what did you learn”? At that time, I didn’t understand the question. The good news is, after competing in all of these different tournaments throughout the Midwest, you are bound to get better. As my body grew and matured, I continued to compete, making it to the podium. I was blessed to able to accumulate a nice amount of Gold, Silver and Bronze medals, not to mention a few swords and a Chicago NAGA Champion Belt. I have been the primary instructor for the kids program since opening our doors. It is always nice to see kids excel in technique and flow. The highlight of my career is when Carlson had me test out and changed my belt certifications to reflect that I am a 100% Carlson Gracie certified athlete. Throughout my young career, I have been able to travel all over the US and train with some of the biggest Jiu Jitsu instructors and competitors on the planet. With all of this exposure, this has enabled me to develop my own style and grow into how I want to train. I am my dad’s training coach, I’ve helped him to chase his dream of becoming a successful athlete, competitor and gym owner. See you at the gym…. At the age of 12, I started training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. When I started training BJJ, all of the different schools did not have an established kids’ class. I had to train and roll with my younger brother and adults. Once I started to compete, I had to go against teen boys and sometimes women. Needless to say, I did not always achieve the desired outcome I was hoping or wishing for. In the end, I did manage to win some Gold, Silver and Bronze medals and a few swords. The highlight of my young career was winning Silver at the Chicago IBJJF Open. After competing in all of these different tournaments throughout the Midwest. After graduating high school, I got accepted to Central Michigan University. Once I finished up my time there I moved back to Tomah. Another bright moment for me, is when Carlson had me test out and changed my belt certification to reflect that I too am a 100% Carlson Gracie certified athlete. I help my father when he needs a training partner, continue to train with my brother and help my mother with any aspects of management that she needs. I currently serve as the resident multi-media and marketing personnel to the gym. I have helped and continue to help my dad chase his dream of becoming a successful athlete, competitor and gym owner. ABOUT HEIDI BIRD AKA GAAGA Carlson Gracie 3 STRIPE WHITE BELT Born and Raised in Wisconsin Dells While living in Chicago I had the opportunity to attend and watch my husband train with both Grand Master Carlson Gracie Sr. , Carlson Gracie Junior and Rey Diogo. I got to watch my husband compete on multiple occasions. I was even fortunate to witness my husband receive his Blue belt from the late Master Carlson Gracie Senior. Carlson Senior had a beautiful personality, I never knew he was such a legendary practitioner and professor. To me he was just a funny older man who always teased me for being with an old Indian man, “Indians are supposed to be handsome and fit” is what he told me. In 1997 we moved back to Wisconsin. After not training for 12 years, my family started traveling all over the state in search of a gym. At that time there were no legitimate kid programs in the Jiu Jitsu schools. The ones we did attend, averaged two hours in any direction from our home. It did not stop my husband and kids from competing at various Midwest tournaments. Throughout their road trips chasing tournaments, they never had any coaches come support them at the tournaments. The only person, who always greeted us at the tournaments throughout the United States was Carlson Gracie Junior and his team. Even though, they were training at other gyms, he and his team members always took us in and coached them during their matches. This is why we went back to Chicago to see Carlson to join our original team. I too am a 100% Carlson Gracie student. I started my Jui Jitsu career after opening the gym. It has been a wonderful and enlightening experience. Throughout my families journey we have been able to travel and train all over the US and the World. It is my honor to work at our gym greeting and managing the gym, as well as to train. I may not always make it to the mats, but when I do, I make the most of it. We truly do love our gym family and the bond we have created with the Carlson Gracie Team. It has been a fun and exciting journey….
